Heartland

Heartland

Role: Art Direction, Branding
Goal: Give a stuffy payments processor a unique voice in the space.
Duration: 2 months

When I began working with Heartland, a payments processing company, they were in the midst of a rebrand. It was my job to make sure they could hold their own with some very tough competition in the space. We started with a bold social media campaign with playful conversational copy. The campaign performed well with a reported 14% increase in engagement.
The campaign focused on the Work Opportunity Tax Credit incentive and included a gated landing page and corresponding eBook. We debuted a number of new design elements, including new icons, a new color palette, and expanded photo library. The client reported their highest goal completion rate to date at a healthy 4%.
The new eBook was a vast improvement on the plain Word docs the client was used to sending out. Even though the information was dense, I did my best to lay out the pages in way that kept the reader engaged while still implementing the new design language we were proposing.
As part of the campaign, we created several animated infographics showcasing the challenges small businesses face. Visually, the piece was unique to anything the client had done before, but their were excited to try out something new. The graphic is still live today almost 5 years later.
This campaign is a great example of a client that wasn’t afraid to get out of their comfort zone. In the end, they were rewarded with great designs that drove traffic and revenue and a fresh look and feel that reflected their new brand.
